For the longest time I have referred to this as a 1930s dress.
The fabric appears to be feedsack—super popular during the Great Depression when women repurposed feed bags into clothing. I had looked up the tag before, but I always fell back on my initial assumption, even though I knew that zippers (like the one up the front of this dress) were just starting to enter women’s fashion in the ’30s, thanks to Elsa Schiaparelli. Buttons were still far more common in feedsack house dresses.
But today, I’m finally buckling down and getting to the bottom of this mystery. Take your best guess now…
