The 90 year old Swimsuit Designed by a Reverend...

Researching the history of 1930s knit brand "Jirsild"

I'm so sorry for being M.I.A. lately — I just made a big move across state lines (which turned out to be way more time-consuming than I expected)!

But I’m BACK with a new episode, and today I’m diving into the fascinating (and surprisingly extensive) history of the Jirsild Knitting Co., a brand I discovered on a 1930s knit swimsuit I bought on eBay a couple years ago.

In this episode, I unpack the origins of the brand (which dates back to the 1880s), the unique cutout design on the sides of the swimsuit, and why people used to wear wool to swim!

If you’ve got a vintage piece you’d like to submit, you can do that here! I’ll be choosing a few follower-submitted items to feature in the coming weeks.

As always, thanks for being here!
